Join fundraising and development experts, including keynote speaker Eduardo Padrón, president of Miami Dade College, Mary G.F. Bitterman, president of The Bernard Osher Foundation, and Brenda Babitz, author of "Growing Giving" and president of Monroe Community College Foundation.


Dr. Eduardo J. Padrón is the president of Miami Dade College, the largest institution of higher education in the United States. He is nationally respected for his advocacy for underserved populations in higher education, innovative teaching and learning strategies, and focus on support for student success. Padrón has received appointments from four American presidents. He serves on many boards, including: the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, the American Council on Education, the American Association of Colleges and Universities, the League for Innovation, and the Collins Center for Public Policy. In addition, he has served on the Governing Board of the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities, the Board of Directors of the U.S. Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute, and on advisory councils for former Secretaries of State Cyrus Vance and Ed Muskie and Secretary of Education Shirley Hufstedler.

He has received the highest orders of distinction from the governments of Spain, France, Mexico, and Argentina for his outstanding leadership and record of commitment to educational opportunity and cultural enrichment. He holds a doctorate in economics from the University of Florida and is an alumnus of Miami Dade College.

Dr. Mary G.F. Bitterman is the president of The Bernard Osher Foundation. Prior to joining the Osher Foundation, Bitterman served as president and CEO of The James Irvine Foundation, an independent foundation serving Californians, and as president and CEO of KQED, one of the nation’s leading public broadcasting centers. She also served as executive director of the Hawaii Public Broadcasting Authority, director of the Voice of America, director of the Hawaii State Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs, and director of the East-West Center’s Institute of Culture and Communication. A fourth-generation Californian, Bitterman is currently a director (and immediate past chairman) of the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS), The Bernard Osher Foundation, Bank of Hawaii, Barclays Global Investors, and the Commonwealth Club of California. She is an honorary member of the National Presswomen’s Federation and a fellow of the National Academy of Public Administration. Bitterman earned a B.A. from Santa Clara University and her M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from Bryn Mawr College.

Brenda Babitz serves as president of the Monroe Community College Foundation and chief advancement officer for Monroe Community College in Rochester, N.Y. She has authored numerous articles on fundraising and is a frequent speaker. She is the author of "Growing Giving."

"Growing Giving" offers proven ways to grow relationships (internally and externally) and identify giving opportunities based on benchmarks achieved by other advancement operations. As competition for state and local money mounts, community colleges must look beyond the public sector to fund their educational missions. Private support is needed to bridge the gap between what public funding can provide and the level of excellence today’s community-based education demands.
