Learn from the Best
Hear from keynote speakers Pamela Cox-Otto, President & CEO, Interact Communications, Inc.; Dr. Jack Scott, Chancellor, California Community Colleges; Philip Berry, President of Berry Associales, LLC., and Brian Flahaven, Director of Government Relations and Institutionally Related Foundations, CASE.
Dr. Pamela Cox-Otto
Highly skilled, a brilliant strategist, and possessing a wild sense of humor, Pam Cox-Otto, Ph.D. brings a wealth of experience to meeting the marketing needs of community colleges. Pam has created statewide image and recruitment programs for community colleges, implemented government relations efforts, and recreated the brands of many colleges coast-to-coast. She has written a book on best web practices for colleges (Making your Website Work, LRP), and is currently writing the first of a three-part book series on generational marketing for colleges. She's a frequent national keynote speaker and she blends the latest research and marketing skills with a deep understanding of two-year colleges.
Pam's current expertise in research, planning and communications began humbly, as a television news reporter in the tiny California town of Eureka in 1974. Her experience as a reporter was developed through covering Salinas, Monterey, Sacramento (the state capitol) and later ended as a reporter in the San Francisco television market. She maintains a busy schedule, balancing her work at Interact with teaching in the MBA Program at Viterbo University (La Crosse, Wisconsin), raising her family, and writing books. Her all-time favorite review of her personal speaking engagements came from a college president at an AACC presentation: "If Robin Williams were a woman, he would be Pam."

Dr. Jack Scott
A member of the State Legislature since 1996, Dr. Scott represented California’s 21st Senatorial District, which includes Pasadena, Glendale, and Burbank; a portion of the city of Los Angeles, and other surrounding cities and communities. During his distinguished senatorial tenure, he served as Chair of the Senate Committee on Education, which considers all legislative measures dealing with K-12 education and the state’s colleges and universities.
Prior to being elected to the State Legislature, Dr. Scott was President of Pasadena City College beginning in 1987. The hallmark of Dr. Scott’s presidency was the launching and completion of a $100 million master plan to meet the college’s needs into the 21st century. Although state funding declined during Dr. Scott’s presidency, the college balanced its budget, laid-off no members of its faculty or staff, and maintained an educational program of high quality. Pasadena City College had reserve funds of more than $6 million when he retired in 1995.
Dr. Scott is a Distinguished Professor of Higher Education at Pepperdine University and is the first person to be honored as President Emeritus of Pasadena City College.
Previously, Dr. Scott was a teacher and administrator at Pepperdine University for 10 years before he became the Dean of Instruction at Orange Coast College in 1973. Five years later, in 1978, he became the President of Cypress College.
